Trois projets de l\u2019UNIGE en font partie.<\/strong><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>La d\u00e9couverte du monde quantique a fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 notre quotidien : ordinateurs, t\u00e9l\u00e9communication, navigation par satellite, smartphones ou encore diagnostics m\u00e9dicaux modernes, autant de domaines qui n\u2019auraient pu \u00eatre d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s sans la ma\u00eetrise de la physique quantique. Aujourd\u2019hui, une deuxi\u00e8me r\u00e9volution quantique est en marche: la capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9tecter et manipuler des \u00abquanta uniques\u00bb \u2013 atomes, photons ou \u00e9lectrons. Afin de soutenir la recherche, tout en la liant directement \u00e0 l\u2019industrie, la Commission europ\u00e9enne (CE) a mis sur pied un\u00a0<em>Quantum Flagship<\/em>. Pour la premi\u00e8re phase de ce programme phare de dix ans, vingt projets ont \u00e9t\u00e9 retenus par la CE, dont trois de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Gen\u00e8ve (UNIGE). Une reconnaissance pour l\u2019alma mater, pionni\u00e8re et leader depuis plus de vingt ans dans le domaine quantique.<\/p>\n<p><em>Quantum Flagship<\/em>, c\u2019est un milliard d\u2019euros pour dix ans de recherche dans le domaine quantique. L\u2019objectif : d\u00e9velopper les synergies entre recherche acad\u00e9mique, recherche appliqu\u00e9e et industrie. Les scientifiques europ\u00e9ens ont soumis leurs projets de recherches pour la phase de lancement du\u00a0<em>Quantum Flagship<\/em>, qui court de 2017 \u00e0 2020. Pour cette premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape, trois projets de l\u2019UNIGE seront soutenus parmi les 20 retenus par le CE, pour un soutien global de 130 millions d\u2019euros sur trois ans. D\u00e8s 2021, l\u2019investissement des 870 millions d\u2019euros restants soutiendra une deuxi\u00e8me phase de projets pour une dur\u00e9e de sept ans. \u00abC\u2019est une belle reconnaissance pour notre universit\u00e9\u00bb, rel\u00e8ve Robert Thew, chercheur au Service de physique appliqu\u00e9e \u00e0 la Facult\u00e9 des sciences de l\u2019UNIGE et partenaire dans deux des projets retenus. \u00abHistoriquement, l\u2019UNIGE est la premi\u00e8re institution \u00e0 avoir effectu\u00e9 des communications quantiques hors du milieu prot\u00e9g\u00e9 du laboratoire, par exemple en utilisant les fibres optiques sous le lac L\u00e9man. De ce fait, elle est reconnue comme leader mondial dans ce domaine depuis plus de vingt ans et ces trois nouveaux projets contribuent \u00e0 maintenir cette r\u00e9putation\u00bb, compl\u00e8te-t-il.<\/p><div id=\"crieu-890951386\" class=\"crieu-content crieu-entity-placement\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-5271584769416742\" crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-5271584769416742\" \ndata-ad-slot=\"9321250718\" \ndata-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\n<script> \n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); \n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Quantum Random Number Generation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019UNIGE jouera un r\u00f4le de premier plan dans le projet QRANGE (<em>Quantum Random Number Generation<\/em>), coordonn\u00e9 par Hugo Zbinden, en collaboration avec Robert Thew, Florian Fr\u00f6wis et Nicolas Brunner, chercheurs au D\u00e9partement de physique appliqu\u00e9e \u00e0 la Facult\u00e9 des sciences de l\u2019UNIGE. \u00abQRANGE a pour objectif de d\u00e9velopper les aspects acad\u00e9mique et industriel de la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de nombres al\u00e9atoires quantiques pour des applications dans l\u2019Internet des objets (IoT), la cryptographie quantique et le calcul de haute performance\u00bb, explique Hugo Zbinden. G\u00e9n\u00e9rer des nombres al\u00e9atoires permet de garantir la haute s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de cl\u00e9s de cryptage, pour assurer notamment la confidentialit\u00e9 de transactions sur internet. \u00abL\u2019id\u00e9e est de d\u00e9velopper d\u2019une part la haute s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et la g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de nombres al\u00e9atoires \u00e0 haut d\u00e9bit, et d\u2019autre part de commercialiser des applications peu ch\u00e8res pour la vie quotidienne\u00bb, compl\u00e8te Hugo Zbinden. Neuf partenaires de cinq pays diff\u00e9rents seront associ\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019UNIGE pour QRANGE, pour un total de 2 millions d\u2019euros.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quantum Internet Alliance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Est-il possible de d\u00e9velopper un r\u00e9seau de t\u00e9l\u00e9communication quantique europ\u00e9en, voire mondial ? Afin de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 cette question et d\u2019affiner les technologies d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es en laboratoire, le projet Quantum Internet Alliance (QIA), coordonn\u00e9 par l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Delft au Pays-Bas, rassemblera 23 partenaires de neuf pays, dont l\u2019\u00e9quipe de Mikael Afzelius, chercheur au D\u00e9partement de physique appliqu\u00e9e \u00e0 la Facult\u00e9 des sciences de l\u2019UNIGE. \u00abL\u2019un des grands d\u00e9fis de la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019un tel r\u00e9seau est la r\u00e9p\u00e9tition du signal quantique sur de longues distances\u00bb, expose Mikael Afzelius. \u00abMon \u00e9quipe se concentrera justement sur le d\u00e9veloppement de m\u00e9moires quantiques et de r\u00e9p\u00e9titeurs visant \u00e0 fournir les technologies n\u00e9cessaires \u00e0 un Internet quantique.\u00bb Des recherches capitales pour l\u2019industrie europ\u00e9enne dans ce domaine \u00e9mergent. 10 millions ont \u00e9t\u00e9 attribu\u00e9s par la CE pour soutenir QIA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quantum Flagship Coordination and Support Action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Le dernier projet de l\u2019UNIGE soutenu par la CE \u00e0 hauteur de 3 millions est le Quantum Flagship Coordination and Support Action (QFlag). \u00abNotre objectif est de coordonner toutes les parties prenantes \u2013 CE, Etats membres, chercheurs acad\u00e9miques, acteurs industriels \u2013 et d\u2019atteindre le public et les utilisateurs finaux des technologies quantiques\u00bb, explique Robert Thew, responsable de QFlag \u00e0 l\u2019UNIGE. R\u00e9unions, conf\u00e9rence, workshops, autant d\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nements charg\u00e9s de r\u00e9unir le monde universitaire et l\u2019industrie pour \u00e9laborer un agenda strat\u00e9gique, renforcer le leadership de la recherche europ\u00e9enne et contribuer \u00e0 cr\u00e9er des opportunit\u00e9s commerciales pour faire face aux nouveaux d\u00e9fis soci\u00e9taux. \u00abNous souhaitons \u00e9galement mettre l\u2019accent sur la formation d\u2019une main-d\u2019\u0153uvre sensibilis\u00e9e aux questions quantiques\u00bb, ajoute Robert Thew. R\u00e9unissant sept partenaires de six pays, QFlag est dirig\u00e9 par le VDI Technologiezentrum de D\u00fcsseldorf en Allemagne.<\/p>\n<p>Ces trois projets profiteront du fort \u00e9cosyst\u00e8me d\u2019innovation d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 \u00e0 Gen\u00e8ve et issu du groupe du professeur Nicolas Gisin, co-fondateur de la start-up ID Quantique qui commercialise justement la technologie quantique d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e par la recherche universitaire genevoise. La synergie qui lie l\u2019UNIGE et ID Quantique est un mod\u00e8le d\u2019innovation pour le\u00a0<em>Quantum Flagship<\/em>, qu\u2019il s\u2019agit \u00e0 pr\u00e9sent de r\u00e9pliquer au niveau europ\u00e9en.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u00c0 propos du Quantum Flagship<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Le Quantum Flagship, lanc\u00e9 en 2018, est l\u2019une des initiatives de recherche les plus importantes et les plus ambitieuses de l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne. Dot\u00e9 d\u2019un budget d\u2019un milliard d\u2019euros pour une dur\u00e9e de 10 ans, ce programme phare rassemble des institutions de recherche, des universit\u00e9s, des entreprises et des d\u00e9cideurs politiques dans une initiative conjointe et collaborative d\u2019une ampleur sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent. L\u2019objectif principal du programme Flagship est de consolider et d\u2019\u00e9tendre le leadership et l\u2019excellence scientifiques europ\u00e9ens dans ce domaine de recherche, ainsi que de transf\u00e9rer la recherche en physique quantique du laboratoire vers le march\u00e9 au moyen d\u2019applications commerciales et de technologies de rupture. Avec plus de 5000 chercheurs du monde universitaire et de l\u2019industrie impliqu\u00e9s, elle vise \u00e0 cr\u00e9er la prochaine g\u00e9n\u00e9ration de technologies qui auront un impact sur la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 europ\u00e9enne.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Photo \u00a9 UNIGE.
